The 2016 season came to an end for the Randolph-Henry High School varsity baseball team on Wednesday as it lost 7-5 to Grayson County High School in the Region 2A West Tournament semifinals at the Tazewell Sports Complex.
Though the Blue Devils pulled ahead during the game, the Statesmen were able to tie the contest several times and scored two runs during the seventh inning in their drive to reach the regional title game and the state tourney.
A victory would have given Randolph-Henry an automatic berth in the Group 2A State Tournament.
The Statesmen had an outstanding season, finishing the year with a record of 20-3. They won the Courthouse Conference 37 Tournament for the second time in three years.
