The Randolph-Henry High School junior varsity softball team got another win over Liberty Christian Academy (LCA) on May 10, defeating LCA 21-4. The Lady Statesmen came out swinging their bats and played a great defensive game.
Jumping out to an early lead of 9-2 in the first inning, the ladies never looked back. As the innings progressed, the Statesmen stayed hot in the batter’s box, adding three, four and five more runs in the next three innings. LCA’s rally in the fifth fell short.
Sidney Nichols and Sarah Wilmoth each hit a double. Others getting hits for the Statesmen were Cheyanne Newcomb, Shelby Meyers, Leighan Payne, Hannah Pascuita, Alyssa Rapole, Sarah Wilmoth, Chelsey Aliff and Tori Washington. Rapole got an inside the park home run in the third inning. Hannah Pascuita, who was on the mound pitching her first game of the season, went the distance for the win.
In other action last week, the ladies dropped two home games. On May 9, the Statesmen struggled with their bats as they managed only three hits in a 13-1 loss to the visiting Lady Raiders of Appomattox. Getting hits for the Statesmen were Anna Pascuita, Payne and Aliff.
On Thursday, Randolph-Henry lost 11-8 to visiting Altavista.
The Statesmen again got their bats swinging early as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning.
The Statesmen struggled in the fourth with numerous errors as the Colonels took an 8-7 lead.
Altavista would add three more in the sixth, and Randolph-Henry’s rally in the seventh fell short.
The JV Statesmen close their season out this week.
They are on the road to Cumberland and Buckingham early in the week and return home on Thursday for their final game against Nottoway.
