Alma ‘Kitty’ Banks

On Saturday, April 9, 2016, Alma Bernice Jenkins Banks heard God’s call to come home, your work on earth is finished and she quietly and peacefully answered the call. Alma, know to many as Kitty, was born on September 28, 1967 to Cumberland Jenkins and the late Barbara Wade Jenkins.She attended and graduated from the Charlotte County Public Schools and continued her formal education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Alma met and married Joseph Lamar Banks on May 5, 2001 and to this union one, Tyler M. Banks was born. In addition, Alma eagerly welcomed four “Bonus” children, Katrina, Alex, Victoria and Xavier Banks. Alma was employed by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality in Richmond, VA for more than 20 years. She held numerous positions, with the most recent as an Air Data Coordinator. Alma was a very compassionate, selfless person and was always willing to help where needed. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and she greeted everyone with a smile. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Jenkins, bonus daughter, Victoria Banks; mother-in-law, Constance Coley; maternal grandparents Sherman and Alma Harvey Jenkins. She leaves to cherish fond memories, a devoted husband of 14 years, Joseph L. Banks of Blackstone, VA; four children, Tyler Banks of Blackstone, VA; Katrina and Xavier Banks of Easley, SC; Alex(Corey Sr) Gray of Fort Hood, TX; two grandchildren, Corey Jr. and Kristina; father, Cumberland (Summer) Jenkins of Washington, DC; four siblings, Gloria Jenkins, Charles Jenkins, Davie (Shontel) Harris, and Antonio (Jessica) Harris; nine aunts, Rosa Evans, Dorothea Armistead, Carol (Kelby) Fogle, Alice Jenkins, Mary Jenkins Wiley, Ruth (Leroy) Wells, Shirley Jenkins, Crystal Johnson and Shelly Johnson; seven uncles, Melvin (Wanda) Armistead, Roger Armistead, Raleigh Watson, Wayne Watson, Michael (Carolyn) Banks, Raymone (Frances) Banks, and Junior Johnson; father-in-law, Joseph R. (Iris) Banks; two sisters-in-law, Charletta Coley and Niretta Banks; four brothers-in-law, Kenneth Banks, Tyree and Tyrone Coley, and Kelvin (Misti) Banks; one great aunt, Virginia Wade; one great uncle, William Anderson; John “Beaver” Harris who was like a father to her; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A Home Going Celebration was held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 15, 2016 at St. Andrews Baptist Church in Cullen, VA, with interment in the church cemetery.
