Girls tennis defeats Fuqua, 8-1

With an 8-1 win over Fuqua School on Thursday, the Randolph-Henry High School girls tennis team improved to 4-1.

Playing at No. 1 seed, Alena Latysheva lost 7-6 in a tiebreaker to Fuqua’s Grace Algeier. 

At No. 2, Emily Toombs defeated Charlotte Townsend 6-1. No. 3 seed Helen Lin defeated Amber Bruce 6-2 . 

No. 4 seed McKenzie Sharpe defeated Morgan Cole 6-0. No. 5 seed Emily DeCamp defeated Claudia Sadler 6-1. No. 6 seed Tyler Whirley defeated Catherine Rutherford 6-0. 

In doubles action, No. 1 seed Couper Webb/Meredith Feinman defeated Algeier/Townsend 6-0. 

No. 2 seed Lin/Sharpe defeated Brue/Cole 6-2. No. 3 seed Morgan Mason/Eliza Walker defeated Bailey Rutherford/Natalia Summa 6-0.

The Lady Statesmen will return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Fuqua for a 4 p.m. match.

The team will then play Heritage on Friday at noon.

The R-H girls tennis team is coached by Lindsay Webb.
