Trump, Clinton win Charlotte

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump took Charlotte County by storm in Tuesday’s presidential primary, winning with 798 votes, or 54 percent, leaving eight challengers in the dust.

Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton handily won Charlotte County with 635 votes, or 79 percent, in Charlotte, leading two opponents.

The totals are according to unofficial results from the Charlotte County Registrar’s Office.

Clinton was trailed in Charlotte by Bernie Sanders, who received 162 votes. Marco Rubio followed Trump with 290 votes.

The Associated Press declared Clinton the statewide winner of Virginia’s Democratic Primary. The Republican Primary was still too close to call at presstime, with Trump just ahead of Rubio statewide.

Just over 2,290 people voted in the primaries in Charlotte.
