Over the last year, residents of Charlotte County have had the opportunity to witness a number of changes and decisions made within the area.

Perhaps the most monumental decision made would be the construction of a brand new courthouse on the courthouse square.

However, there have been several other changes around the local area that will provide opportunity for growth and stimulation to Charlotte County’s economy.

While many residents have already heard of plans to build a 9,100-square-foot Dollar General in the Town of Drakes Branch, just last week, the beginning stages of the project provided a glimmer of hope as a “Coming Soon” sign was placed on the site of construction.

While this may not seem like a huge step, many residents of Drakes Branch have long awaited the day when the small town would once again have its own store to pick up items without having to travel to other towns in the county or a neighboring county.

Furthermore, the new Dollar General in Drakes will feature one of the latest designs of the store.

While change has always been evident within the county, the past year has possibly marked one of the most substantial years for growth that the county has encountered within recent years.

As a county, it is up to the citizens how growth is perceived. This growth can be welcomed with opening arms or it can be perceived as a threat.

Let Charlotte County continue to live and grow, while always remembering the rich history that started the place residents call home.
