Russell Tune Harris

Russell Tune Harris, Sr. of Halifax entered into eternity Saturday, January 30, surrounded by his loving family.  Born April 22, 1940 in Charlotte County, he was the son of the late Walter Lee Harris, Sr. and Virginia Mae Ramsey Harris of Charlotte County.  He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsburg and was a retired employee of Smith Automotive in South Boston. He was a member of Bethel Ruritan Club and had a great passion for helping others which was evident in his time spent gleaning food for the hungry.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Lois Newcomb Harris of Halifax; three children–Russell (Kay) Harris, Jr. of Brookneal; Debbie (Tim) Lacks of Farmville; Tony (Trisha) Harris of Alton; six grandchildren–Joni Gardner, Jennifer Claybrook, Rusty Harris, Marsha Green, Mandy Harris and Justin Harris; two great-grandchildren–Parker Claybrook and Rylee Harris.  He was preceded in death by six brothers–Walter (Pete) Harris, Jr., Dalton Harris, George Harris, Thedford Harris, Claude Harris, and Garland Harris. He is survived by a brother, James Harris, and sisters, Mary Williams and Myrtle Coates.

Family visitation was held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 2, at Bethel Baptist Church, Scottsburg, with the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte Court House. Browning-Duffer Funeral Home, Keysville, is in charge of arrangements.
