Scuffletown Grocery will be closing its doors at the end of January after six years in business.

According to Lisa Daniels, owner, she opened  an additional store location in July 2015 in Drakes Branch called Bumpers. “We just decided to focus all our time over there,” she said.

Daniels said  the store was built in the 1970s and Scuffletown Grocery officially opened on Oct. 10, 2010. “We’ve had a pile of people come through here,” Daniels said.

She said she would not have been able to make the store a reality without the help of her husband, Roger, to support her efforts over the years.

“This isn’t a community,” she said. “It’s a family.”

Daniels reflected on the number of individuals who have walked through the doors of Scuffletown Grocery for the last six years. “I’ll really miss the morning crew that comes in here,” she said.

Longtime patron Marcus Blount of Scuffletown said he was going to miss the store because it’s a big part of Scuffletown. “My favorite memory is coming up here and getting a cup of coffee in the morning,” he said. Daniels said she is going to miss seeing all of the customers on a daily basis.

Throughout the years, Scuffletown Grocery has provided good food and entertainment for the small community. Scuffletown days has been a staple in the area since the first event in 2011.

Daniels said she initially remembered having a Scuffletown days at church.  “I wanted to give back to the community,” she said.

Each year, patrons and community have gathered at Scuffletown Grocery to enjoy a variety of vendors and music.

“It’s the biggest part of Scuffletown,” Blount said.

Although Daniels said she will miss the location, she hopes that someone will eventually open the store back up.

“We have a lot of fun here,” Daniels said. She will resume working at Bumpers after the closing of Scuffletown Grocery.

Bumpers is located at 7170 Crafton’s Gate Hwy.
