Charlotte County Public Schools has been recognized by the Virginia School Board Association (VSBA) for receiving a gold certification in the 2015 Green Schools Challenge.

According to a press release from the VSBA, the Greens Schools Challenge emphasizes the implementation of environmental policies and practices that aid in reducing pollutants within the school division and community.

This year, there were a total of 32 school divisions that received honors as a Certified Green School.

Charlotte County Public Schools were recognized as a Gold Certified School, receiving between 150 and 174 green points.

The release said green points were awarded for the adoption of new policies and actions.

The Virginia School Board Association said groupings for the different levels of ranged from platinum (175-200 points), gold (150-174 points), silver (125-149 points) and green (100-124 points). 

“We analyzed  our expenditures on our utility bills and have worked diligently to increase our  energy conservation efforts,” said Superintendent of Charlotte County Schools, Nancy Leonard.

“It has been a division-wide team effort. Our students have participated in assisting with our energy efficiency efforts and are learning ways in which to protect our environment and reduce wasteful habits. I appreciate the team effort.”

The Green Schools Challenge was sponsored by Moseley Architects and ABM Building and Energy Solutions.
