On Monday, the Town of Charlotte Court House held a public hearing to discuss the future of its Municipal Building. Citizens were invited to speak regarding a possible proposal to sell the municipal building and donate the funds to the Charlotte Court House Fire Department or sell the building to the fire department.

“I do hope that we can do something to help the fire department,” said Charlotte County Supervisor Gary Walker. “I will say that I would be opposed to any project that involves tearing down part of this building. I think it would look very bad.”

“I think this building may be worth a whole lot more money than some of you realize,” Walker said. “I agree with Gary,” said Terry Ramsey. “It doesn’t make sense to sell a building then tear it down.”

“If you’re going to help the fire department, you need to be transparent about it, and if you were going to sell it to them for anything less than fair market value, then it wouldn’t be clear how much you were donating …,“Ramsey said. “I understand they’re looking for a new firehouse; it looks like they should be coming forth with some type of business plan of how they’re going to go about raising the money and what they’re going to do.”

“I think this property along route 40 here is valuable to the town’s future and I hope you take that under consideration when you make your decision,” said Walker.

“I’m not saying I’m opposed to the fire department building, I know you guys put a lot of time and thought into it and you all will make the right decision,” he said.
