The Randolph-Henry cross-country teams traveled to Amelia on Oct. 14 for a race against Amelia, Cumberland and Nottoway. It was the final regular season race for all the James River District (JRD) schools.

The Statesmen won their fifth meet of the year by winning a tiebreaker over Nottoway. Chris Nichols (third), Nasheim Pettus (fourth), Michael Nichols (seventh) and John Wendelin (eighth) finished in the top ten for the Runnin’ Statesmen.

The girls team performed shorthanded, due to injuries and illness to some of the runners.

Adrianne Nelson had another strong race, finishing third. All runners shaved noticeable time off previous races.

Post-season races begin on Wednesday at Occoneechee Start Park with the JRD Championships.

Coaches Jeff Williams and DeanSchwartz are looking for strong performances from every runner to propel R-H further into the postseason.
