Randolph-Henry was floating on cloud nine when they were tied 28-28 with Goochland High School in the third quarter of the Friday night game, but then the Bulldogs pulled past and notched 21 additional points to their score to win the game, 49-28.

“Goochland controlled the ball and the clock in the second half, and the Statesmen only had three possessions,” said R-H coach Mark McPherson.

“On the first possession of the second half the Statesmen drove down inside the 10-yard line, but could not punch it in to take a 35-28 lead. It was a good effort and we have a lot of positives to build on but we have to be able to play for 48 minutes to become a good team.”

Standout Joseph Reed had 23 carries for 194 yards, along with two touchdowns (80-yard run and a 6-yard run). He also went 7-for-17 in passing for 76 yards, had a two-point conversion and threw a touchdown pass.

With the yardage covered, Reed surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark and has 1,066 yards rushing on the season, accompanied with 14 total touchdowns.

Dajour Davis had three carries for 57 yards and scored on a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Chris Powell followed with 10 carries for 31 yards, while Tyrie Blow had three carries for 12 yards and a six-yard touchdown.

Tyquan Beattie had two carries for nine yards and scored a two-point conversion. Fred Blow contributed with a carries for 13 yards.

Powell led the defense with six solo tackles, nine assists and an interception.

Blow also finished the night with four solo tackles and eight assists.

Josh Goldman had a fumble recovery on the night.

The Statesmen drop to 2-3 overall with the loss.

Randolph-Henry will look to get back in the winning column on Friday night when it hosts the Amelia County High School Raiders at 7 p.m.
