The Red Hill Garden Club held its September meeting at the Department Store Antiques on Main Street in Brookneal.

Vendors Brenda Pool, Tammy Preston and Joanie Wood hosted and answered questions for garden club members.

Guest speaker Tamera Mason Sprouse told the group about the history or McCoy pottery, manufactured from the mid-eighteenth century until the 1970’s.

McCoy is among the most collected pottery in the United States. Ms. Sprouse provided a large number of flower vases and pots from her own collection for the members to examine.  Following the McCoy presentation, the club held its business meeting.

Under the leadership of president Marjorie Pugh, the club is applying for grants to complete a project with youth and to restore memorial gardens.

Hostess Gwen Hamlett provided refreshments. McCoy pottery is available for sale in the store.
