The Charlotte County Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA) was formed more than 80 years ago to preserve the rich history and heritage of Charlotte County.

A scholarship was created in 2004 by the Board of Directors to continue and maintain its pledge of preserving the County’s past for future generations by financing a scholarship for a Charlotte County high school senior or a county resident who is currently enrolled in college, and has at least a 3.0 grade point average.

For 2015, the Charlotte County APVA Scholarship was awarded to Mr. Chandler Vaughan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Vaughan, of Keysville.

Throughout his years at Randolph-Henry High School, Vaughan was active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA).  This year, Vaughan is serving as President of the Virginia FFA and will travel the Commonwealth visiting various FFA Chapters and conduct workshops on leadership, communications, and other agricultural subjects.

In addition to visiting schools, Vaughan will travel to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the National FFA Convention, as well as Taiwan and Thailand to learn about agriculture abroad. Following his year of service, Vaughan will enroll at Virginia Tech in the fall of 2016 to study Agribusiness.

The Charlotte County Branch AVPA was pleased to award this year’s scholarship to an impressive young man with a bright and promising future.
